Welcome!

Welcome to The Positive Parenting Journal. This e-journal is part of an ongoing commitment to the community of Christian Faith School to support our families.

My name is Ruth Williams and I am one of the administrators at Christian Faith School. I oversee several areas of the school, one of which is student conduct. I am consistently searching for new techniques to reach the heart of a challenging student. As the mother of 5, I was always looking for help. My husband and I actually took a 16 week parenting class 5 different times over the course of several years. We recognized that each child was unique and our approach to discipline would need to reflect that God-given uniqueness. We tried, (not always successfully) to keep the end game in mind, in order to help them become the men and women God has called them to be.

I have to admit that the 21st century is both an exciting and terrifying time to raise children.  There is so much advice at our finger tips. We have the ability to search and read about or watch tens of thousands of “parenting experts” tell you how to do it right. However, sorting out the good from the bad is sometimes a bit tricky.  I hope to help you in this journey by sending out bi-monthly videos or articles that we can talk about and reflect on. Did you try it, did it work, or did you discover something new?  In Proverbs 11:14 we are told, “Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise council you follow, the better your chances.”

I realized a long time ago, even If I was a perfect parent (not possible), my children still had free will to decide who they were going to be and how they were going to act. There was no magic wand, no 100% guarantee that my children were going to be all I envisioned for them the day they were born, or in the case of my 3 adopted children, came into my home. Following biblical parenting advice did however, allow me the peace of mind to know I did the best I could with the information I had. God had to fill in the rest. That is the best any of us can do. The Bible says in Proverbs 21:31, “Do your best, prepare for the worst - then trust God to bring victory” (MSG). I don’t necessarily believe that verse is specific to parenting but there is certainly truth in it.

The goal of The Positive Parenting Journal is to share with you biblical truths about parenting. My hope is that you also share with the community, positive techniques you have discovered or questions and concerns you have.
